The Bersih 3.0 rally was a sit-down protest (Duduk Bantah in
Malay). In addition to the eight previous demands:
- Clean up of the electoral roll
- Reform of postal ballot
- Use of indelible ink
- Minimum 21 days of campaign period
- Free and fair access to mass media for all parties
- Strengthening of public institutions
- No corruption
- No dirty politics
Bersih 3.0 was endorsed by 84 NGOs. In particular, it was joined by Himpunan Hijau
(Green Assembly), a civil movement protesting the Lynas rare
earth project in Malaysia. In addition to the main rally at Kuala
Lumpur, smaller rallies were held in 10 other cities in Malaysia, as
well as in 34 other countries.
7 of us went to KLCC at 10am from LRT Wangsa Maju, for wat? For participate the Himpunan Hijau + Bersih 3.0. I was worried that KLCC LRT Station already closed, luckily everything went smoothly. When we stepped into KLCC, we saw there were many people wore in green or yellow, or official Hijau/Bersih shirt. 11am, we join with green and yellow crowd moved forward to Dataran Merdeka.
Ready to start our walk.
We're late. The main huge group already at ther front front front side.
7 of us were following
I've been stayed at KL since 1 month old, and this is my first picture of KL Tower.
We've reached Masjid Jamek, and we're not able to move forward already. Rally already started.Uncountable green and yellow people, signboard, flags, balloons, flowers, ribbons, camera shooting and more...we can felt the passion of everyone to launch the rally peacefully.
Guy Fawkes said "People should not be afraid of their governments"
No matter what race you are, what religion you are, what category of people you are, what age you are, you have the right to participate the event. (Of course make sure becareful especially for those senior citizens, kids etc.)
Salute!!
Around 3pm, we followed the others were trying to walk to Dataran Merdeka. Suddenly, there was a man run to our direction and shouting "Put salt into you mouth now!!!" then we realised that was some tear-gas from FRU. We walked back and I thought we might not felt the gas because we're far away and we didn't any smoke in front of us. But, we still affect by tear gas, I started felt that my eyes and nose is getting "spicy" and getting more and more "spicy". My eyes can't opened well at all. We ran to shop alley and getting solution to release our suffers with others. There were few Malays who guide us and provide salt to us immediately, althought we brought ours too. But it's too late to take out from bag that time.
Here was where we hide at.
People was leaving from Masjid Jamek due to tear gas attacked by FRU.
End up, we're not dare to move forward but finding a way to leave also. We took Dang Wangi LRT back to Wangsa Maju. While I was home, I saw a lot of people shared the videos, photos of this rally, including police violence, police car incident, injured protestors etc. Today, local media said that there were only 25k of people attend for the rally, but I'm sure there were more and more than that! According to foreign news, there were around 200k protestors.
Everyone have the right to attend the rally. There must be issue in such a huge event, but we just want to voice out that we want a fair election, we don't want lynas factory. We don't care does Bersih 3.0 was used to be a way for politic issue of other party or not. We just want to show our wills, although it may helpless. Exclude about Bersih, we can see government's decision, why were they willing to accept the Lynas project although it is killing people? Is that what's our PM said "Serve the Community"?
